Wilson Tay Kah Hoe

CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER, CONSORTIUM 21

“It is true that the Metaverse will create limitless opportunities,” shares Wilson Tay Kah Hoe. “Web3 technology creates value for humanity. What truly inspires me is that we are creating opportunities for humanity in the future with the Metaverse.”

Tay strives to build a legacy that will truly impact the world through web3 innovations. As a veteran Malaysian IT executive with 11 years of experience and a serial entrepreneur who’s co-founded several technology firms, he has recognized the potential and power of the Metaverse and web3 to change people’s lives. He is currently Chief Technology Officer at Consortium 21, a marketing and advertising company that provides people with innovative strategies for success in an ever-changing world.

Simplifying the solution

“My true passion in IT is to make people’s lives easier through technology,” Tay explains after recently being named the Leadership Excellence Award’s 2021 Top Innovative Leader of the Year.

As a crypto enthusiast and futurist, Tay’s mission is to bring as many businesses into web3 through exciting journeys with the space’s emerging trends and technologies. He believes that blockchain and its tools, such as NFTs, create even more benefits for people through transparency and ownership of digital assets. More people will be in control of their data and be able to monetize it, something that will never be possible with web2.

With this perspective, Tay began building and developing web3 tools to create opportunities for women to forge their own journeys and f inancial independence. The Metaverse will fundamentally change how people will work and earn money, bringing unprecedented change to bringing equity to the world regarding financial independence for women. Web3, according to Tay, presents the best opportunity for women to stake a claim in the future of the global economy – and he’s building those tools to empower women today. “Imagine a world where no matter who you are or where you are, you can be a part of any organization or company and create a living for yourself.”

Future-proof

When asked what he is most excited about for the future, Tay says it is a “world where everyone will use web3 on a daily basis. The barrier right now is to create an extremely user-friendly web3 system where people won’t need to go through the process of creating wallets or having to understand what blockchain is. Like the internet basically, we’re all using it, but we don’t actually understand what is going on behind the scenes. When web3 becomes as user-friendy as web2 is today, the technology will be widely adopted by everyone.”

He continues: “It used to be quite a tedious process to get hold of your first NFT or make payment to get your cryptocurrency. But people in the space are working on initiatives to make the process easier. Part of what we have done at Consortium21 is enabling users to claim NFTs in less than 30 seconds.

His first foray into web3 was in 2016, when he found navigating it extremely difficult. “From that period to now, NFTs used to be just a collectible and now it is used to cater to real-world applications. The Metaverse was solely used to showcase NFTs in galleries, but are now used to create virtual presences in the real world, such as events and buildings. Here we are today where web3 and the Metaverse are starting to gain traction and slowly being accepted by the majority of the public. The way web3 and the Metaverse have evolved in recent years has already seen the technology, tools and use cases improve in user-friendliness. My perseverance in developing web3-related technology is worth it all.”
