Stéphanie Bretonnière, a global changemaker with a passion for innovation, has a unique understanding of the world around her. Having journeyed to more than 60 countries and lived in multicultural environments, she’s been enriched through the experience and knowledge acquired from the local people, including scientists, experts, entrepreneurs and artisans. This has undoubtedly influenced her way of working and her belief in the power of diversity, contribution, altruism and inclusion.
She holds a degree in Economics from Universidad Católica de Córdoba, Argentina and an MBA from Montpellier Business School in southern France. She’s a member of the EU Tech Chamber and World Economic Forum Expert Network and sits on the Advisory Board of both the Metaverse Fashion Council, and French Circular Fashion Federation.
After a 15-year long corporate stint at Clarins, LVMH and Richemont Group, plus several digital tech startup experiences, Stéphanie embarked upon her web3 journey at the early stages of the NFT boom at the beginning of 2021. She joined ORIGYN Foundation as a partner and CEO of ORIGYN Luxury working on luxury goods biometric authenticity technology, having the ambition to encapsulate this innovation, in a utility dApp NFT, fully encrypted on a sustainable blockchain.
Set on developing a new generation of business across the beauty, fashion and luxury industries, Stéphanie established POWR3.io, a web3 creative and collective studio empowering those in the industry to transition from web2 to web3, connecting luxury, fashion & beauty communities, nurturing customer relationship with exclusive experiences while boosting loyalty thanks to a new web3 rewarding systems, and more traceability.
“Integral to my vision in combining web3 technology and its inherent collaborative ethos with collective intelligence and the circular economy,” she explains, “I draw on Jugaad (frugal) innovation and my own self-devised Impact Hacking model (growth hacking as applied to sustainable development), which culminated following a worldwide trip of two years overlanding five continents.”
Impact Hacking can be described as a tremendous way to do more with less in terms of sustainability transformation while engaging and educating clients on the new norm. In her TEDx talk, Stéphanie speaks about how impressed she is with the way that African leaders leverage the few resources that they have, to make a strong impact and how they ingeniously recycle and repurpose things, focusing on being a solutionmaker rather than a problem highlighter.
Drawing on her own personal experiences to inspire people in dealing with change, she explains why she embarked on the aforementioned trip. She was faced with a serious health problem that shattered her life and her plans but she affirms the trip was the best decision she made. It resulted in a life-changing lesson that taught her, when facing unprecedented times, there are three options: run away from the problem; keep going exactly as before; or accept the change. The third option develops the ability to adapt and acquire news skills as well as to leverage every new experience. “To develop a life-long learning approach requires a lot of humility in letting go, it requires resilience and the willingness to accept help.”
Stéphanie believes the impact of the Metaverse on our lives will be huge, knowing, for example that the World Economic Forum announced in May 2022 that it’s embarking on an ambitious journey to harness the potential of the Metaverse as a platform for collaborative, inclusive and effective international action. She says the Forum, in collaboration with Accenture and Microsoft, is building a Global Collaboration Village as the virtual future of public-private cooperation. It will provide immersive spaces where stakeholders can convene, create and take action on the world’s most pressing challenges.
Her advice for the fashion and luxury brands wanting to enter the web3 space, is they must start learning by doing. They should also go beyond the buzzword and nurture their web3 projects – for more impact and learning– with their brand DNA while being end-consumer centric. This new approach requires converting their audience into a strong community.
Her personal wish is to support Luxury, Fashion, and Beauty brands contributing to purpose-driven projects combining technology, sustainability, DEI and women empowerment while working collaboratively with web3 enthusiasts from all over the world.
Creative, audacious, empathetic, and results-oriented, Stéphanie believes in the power of communities, sharing of knowledge while supporting diversity, inclusion and circular economy to build a sustainable progressive future.
“Combining business, humans, tech and sustainability is a game-changer,” she adds, reassuring us that, “Therefore, more than ever, I will continue to dedicate my time and leverage my skills, network, and track record supporting brands aiming to unleash to the power of web3 while embracing sustainability for more impact and building a new ways to interact with their consumers, employees, suppliers and audience.”
