Spanish-born Laura Wolff is turning heads in more ways than one! Not only with her model looks and quirky sense of humor, but with her vocal presence and work in the web3 and Metaverse space.
Madrid, Spain The Metaverse – an integration of online and offline worlds Laura came from a background in digital marketing and corporate relationship management, but she never found real motivation in the traditional business-to-consumer marketing approach. Looking for something more appealing, she began studying blockchain and how it could potentially be implemented in businesses. It was at the beginning of 2021 that she discovered web3 and the importance of communities. She fell in love with the ethos and the potential of the technology, but was also inspired by the people with whom she connected and the way in which they were executing their ideas.
“My biggest motivation,” Laura says, “comes from solving current, real issues by building and creating something from scratch that disrupts the current system and brings innovation and new opportunities to people.”
She’s currently working on her own business providing different solutions for organizations that want to bridge to web3, with the idea being to find projects and companies that will bring value to the space. She expresses that there is a huge gap right now when it comes to companies with good intentions and revolutionary concepts as they lack the knowledge of how to approach the space or find the right people to work with.
“The company I’m creating with my partners,” Laura states, “is looking to help fill that gap by filtering good projects and businesses and connecting them to the right people to make their ideas a reality.” She explains that most agencies are taking advantage of people and charging substantially for promotions that are neither useful nor creating real impact for the projects. The goal of Laura’s company is to be part of the space and the ethos while adapting to the way they think business should be done to create real value.
Laura describes the Metaverse as a virtual reality experience that’s still a work in progress, which she estimates will have a big impact and the potential to disrupt the way people interact and consume. Referring to it as a shared digital space that could overlay the real world, she says it’s the combining of gaming, social media and virtual reality platforms onto a single shared identity and value system. “In its simplest form, it’s the integration of online and offline worlds.”
She maintains that the biggest barriers to the mass adoption of the Metaverse are privacy and security concerns and a lack of compelling use cases. For that to be achieved, the technology will need to become intuitive, easy and trustworthy.
Laura is personally very excited about the technology and all the possibilities it brings to the future in every aspect. “When you zoom out, it’s really a tool that can be used to make our lives easier and create new concepts and opportunities for the long run.”
Looking back on her journey, Laura recounts attending an event in Abu Dhabi and found it surprisingly easy to connect with people from the industry. They were willing to give of their time to talk about business and many had a similar mindset. This felt like a comfortable community where she wanted to grow and make a positive difference.
Laura remarks that people are still learning about the web3/Metaverse space and even if we think we are too far behind, it’s not that complicated to catch up. She talks about the fast pace at which everything is moving and says there’s no need to learn the ‘history’ of everything in detail, but to rather focus on keeping up with where we are right now.
