In the rapidly evolving landscape of technology stands Frincy Clement — a woman whose journey inspires countless others. Not only has she carved out her own place in a male‑dominated field, but she is also ensuring that women who come after her have a clearer path to walk on.

“Empower, inspire, connect, and celebrate.” These are not just words but an embodiment of Frincy’s ethos as she steps into the dynamic world of AI and female leadership.

A Luminous Beacon in the AI Realm

Frincy’s undying spirit is to excel in AI and uplift those around her. Named among the 2022 Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 and highlighted in the 2023 Top 100+ Women Advancing AI, her contributions to the AI industry are profound.

“I am an award‑winning Artificial Intelligence leader, community builder, public speaker, and changemaker,” Frincy recounts. With over nine years of diverse experience across various sectors and an impressive tenure as a Principal Data Scientist at ADP, she’s been a driving force, particularly for women striving to carve their niche in AI.

Elevating Women in AI

Frincy’s drive goes beyond her professional achievements. As she emphasizes, “empowering more women to enter careers in AI” is where her heart truly lies. Representing Canada as the Country Ambassador for Women in AI, her leadership has significantly expanded Canada’s Women in AI community.

“Our mandate revolves around crafting programs and events with a clear aim: to inspire, educate, mentor, and connect women in the AI realm,” Frincy shares. Her leadership has given birth to a myriad of initiatives, each significant in its own right. They range from mentorship schemes and hands‑on technical workshops to holistic networking affairs. But it’s not just about quantity; each program stands as a testament to the tangible impact it brings.

Diving deeper into her contributions, Frincy champions education and training. Through initiatives like WaiMasterClass and WaiEducate, her team is democratizing access to AI knowledge, ensuring everyone, from seasoned professionals to eager teens, gets a comprehensive insight into the world of AI.

Her team is also passionately invested in mentorship and career advancement. With platforms like WaiMentorship and WaiCareer Coaching programs, her team transforms the lofty aspirations of women eyeing a career in AI into a concrete, attainable roadmap.

Beyond this, her efforts in networking and fostering community ties are commendable. Be it the regular WaiTime meetups or the groundbreaking in‑person career expos her team has launched, they are bridging the gap, ensuring AI professionals have a robust community backing them up. Frincy’s leadership and vision in bringing these initiatives and seeing them materialize through her team helped the Canadian chapter of Women in AI build a stronger community and launch impactful programs that benefit the community.

From Struggle to Empowerment

But like every success story, Frincy’s journey was not without challenges. From pursuing an MBA from a top B‑School in India to facing job struggles in Canada, she’s seen the many facets of professional life. Despite the adversities, she found her passion in AI, fueled by her love for solving problems. “I loved solving problems for businesses and communities, and Data Science was a field where I could leverage my experience in business and expertise in programming,” Frincy reflects.

“Even though I was good at math and programming since my school years, I believed only superhuman beings could learn and implement AI,” Frincy confesses. Such self‑imposed barriers aren’t unique to Frincy but echo the inner struggles of countless women pondering a leap into the tech sector. But what sets Frincy apart is her determination to wrestle with these doubts.

Once she decided to take the plunge, another gargantuan task awaited. “With the endless information available on the internet, it was hard for me to really understand where an experienced woman with a business background should start,” she recalls. Determination led her to networks and mentors who had trodden the path before. With their guidance and her relentless pursuit, she navigated the AI realm, all while balancing a full‑time job and motherhood.

The culmination? A second master’s degree specializing in AI. Her journey serves as a beacon, urging women worldwide to chase their dreams, no matter the odds. “All of these challenges and experiences motivated me to do something for the women who are struggling like me,” she emphasizes, laying bare her commitment to uplifting others.

One of the most touching aspects of Frincy’s journey is her selfless dedication. “The real motivation for me is the impact I witness in the audience. It’s not about the attention we receive, but the stories of women who have advanced their careers because we gave them a helping hand.”

AI: Opportunities and Challenges

Frincy paints a vivid picture of the AI landscape over the next decade. “AI is revolutionizing every industry because of the democratization of AI through a simple UI called ChatGPT,” she highlights. As businesses rapidly adopt AI, the foundational pillars of data, infrastructure, computation, and governance will need strengthening.

The democratization of AI, offering plug‑and‑play solutions, will empower small businesses to harness the prowess of AI. However, with great power comes great responsibility. The future beckons a world where the responsible use of AI takes center stage. “Organizations have been investing in people and projects that will enable them to get maximum potential through AI while keeping Responsible use of AI in the forefront,” Frincy points out.

This paradigm shift will also reshape the job market. Routine tasks will be automated, and roles will evolve, making upskilling and reskilling vital. But on the flip side, it will also create a talent vacuum. However, with every challenge, there’s an opportunity, and Frincy emphasizes the increasing demand for individuals with advanced knowledge and skill sets in AI.

Advocacy for Women in STEM

Throughout her journey, Frincy’s identity as a woman, and more so as a woman of color, significantly shaped her perspective. It made her realize the importance of role models, mentors, and allies. From seeking guidance to standing up for herself and fostering meaningful relationships, her strategies to navigate the challenges are insightful and inspirational.

She speaks of her mother and sisters as sources of strength and inspiration, proving that you don’t need to look far to find role models. This foundation of strong women helped her confront gender stereotyping and assert her rightful place in the AI world.

Guiding the Next Generation

“Never underestimate the power and positive impact of strong willpower,” she says. Frincy’s resilience, unwavering belief in her capabilities, and commitment to helping others underscore the essence of her message. In the face of adversities, it is one’s willpower that emerges as the beacon of hope and the driving force for change.
