Kerry Murphy

FOUNDER & CEO - THE FABRICANT

The rise of the digital fashion industry will empower creators worldwide. At the heart of this movement is Kerry Murphy, the CEO and Founder of The Fabricant, who is building the digital-only fashion industry and a digital-only fashion brand, alongside a team of empowered women.

Each season fashion changes. However, the global fashion industry is one of the slowest to embrace change. According to a recent study by Business of Fashion revealed that women made up less than 14-percent of leadership positions and a PwC report showed that women led less than 13-percent of Fortune 1000 Retail and Apparel companies. Throughout Kerry’s career, he’s recognized the importance of female leaders in the industry – and that’s why he champions The Fabricant in shaping the digitalonly fashion industry: it is co-founded by Amber Slooten (Creative Director) and Adriana Hoppenbrouwer (Commercial Director), featured as one of the Top 100 Women of the Future in web3 and the Metaverse. Proudly, the majority of The Fabricant’s highly experienced staff are women.

According to Kerry, digital-only fashion will be more significant than the $3 trillion physical fashion industry simply because it’s more scalable and sustainable. “This technology will essentially democratize the fashion industry, providing access to those who previously did not have the funds to relocate to where the fashion industry is situated physically. It will give them the tools to design, curate, and sell digital-only clothing for our virtual existence.”

Digital-only

The Fabricant believes in wasting nothing but data and exploiting nothing but imagination. Here, Kerry operates at the intersection of fashion and technology to fabricate digital couture and fashion experiences. He leads a team of creative technologists envisioning a future where fashion transcends the physical body, and digital identities pervade daily life for a new reality.

Prior to launching The Fabricant in 2018, Kerry worked in the advertising industry for companies such as Facebook, Nike, Asics, Under Armour, Playstation, Philips and more. His education is in film and visual effects, and he uses his combined technical skills in 3d/VFX, creative direction and business skills to advance the Metaverse and build the digital-only fashion industry.

“Our virtual experiences will only keep growing every year, and our virtual identities will become even more important to us than they were before,” Kerry shares about the limitless opportunities presented by the Metaverse. “Digital business models will start becoming more profitable than their physical counterparts. We will see the digitization of our society evolving in all aspects of our lives. The entertainment industry will be the fastest to evolve. Through it, we will start seeing more practical value in digital twins in governments, fashion, and healthcare – especially body scanning and 3d scanning of objects, and cities will have a major impact in our day-to-day lives.”

He defines the Metaverse as the evolution of the internet built on gaming technology, making it more interactive, engaging, and aesthetically pleasing. Since diving into web3 in 2018, he’s been working non-stop, believing that digital-only fashion will be one of the largest verticals in the virtual space. He also got to sell the world’s first digital-only couture dress on the blockchain in 2019 for $10,000.

Kerry says that the Metaverse is the evolution of the internet. What he finds appealing about the future of web3 is that unlike web2, in which a few tech companies monopolized and controlled data, web3’s future is open source and composable, where users will own their activities and data.

Asked what he is most excited about for the future, Kerry says the “new layers built on the internet will revolutionize how we engage online. True ownership of digital files and data will be a breakthrough that will challenge the way banks, governments, and other institutions are run in the future.”
