The brave new world of the Metaverse is here – and it has already left an indelible mark on how society plays, lives, and works. Web3 and the Metaverse are, by design, open and accessible to everyone. Anthony Day is an advocate for women to fully embrace the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity provided by this emerging technology to drive social change in the real world.
“There are no areas or domains within blockchain and web3 that cannot be studied, understood, and made into a career or a calling. Like Alice in Wonderland, embrace the curiosity to jump down the rabbit hole and try to find something or someone that captures your imagination and passion,” says Anthony. “Don’t be afraid to ask for help, reach out to people who inspire you, and try or make mistakes. The women of web3 are kind, curious, and creative; I can’t think of a better group of people to surround yourself with and help you shape the world’s future.”
Anthony dedicated his career to blockchain technology and the incredible web3 community. He started his career in blockchain with Deloitte, where he was COO of the EMEA Blockchain Lab, followed by a stint at IBM, who are world leaders in blockchain for enterprise and government applications. Anthony currently supports Parity Technologies and the Polkadot Blockchain community, bringing life to an open, multi-chain web3 future. Alongside this, he founded the “Blockchain Won’t Save the World” podcast, which provides a no-hype, approachable content format for anyone interested in web3.
Anthony believes women-led initiatives in web3 and the Metaverse need to be recognized and celebrated. He shares: “We need to promote any projects that are women-led, or where you can see women leaders in every area of web3 organizations, not just founders or CTOs. Web3 needs talented, driven, diverse people in every domain: legal, tax, people ops, dev ops, testing, tooling, risk and compliance, marketing, business development, content creation, and more. The list is endless.
“Hearing stories and seeing examples from ‘people like you’ is important for others to believe in their own potential. So, the louder we can shout about the incredible women in web3, whether they are perceived as ‘high achievers’ by society, or doing important work at any level within projects or communities, the better.”
Undoubtedly the future will be bright for anyone with a stake in the future of the internet, believes Anthony. The mainstream usage of blockchain technology already supports billions of dollars in value in finance, trade, gaming, media, and much more. The continuous innovation and new projects add even more utility and value to web3 and the Metaverse, increasing the intensity of competition between the underlying blockchain protocols.
When asking Anthony how women and women-led initiatives can achieve equality through web3 and the Metaverse for the real world. He remarks: “There are many ways to fund blockchain and web3 initiatives today. You do not always have to go through the traditional banking or Venture Capital channels. Many projects have dedicated ‘women-founder’ funds or bounties, or other women leaders mentor them. However, wider grants and funding initiatives are equally available and often larger. The sooner we can help crystallize, mentor and bring more women-led projects through the front door, the sooner equality will be achieved.”
