Managing Partner at Gowling WLG

I knew it would be a new chapter when I moved to the UAE from London in 2009 with my wife and young family. What I didn’t yet realize was how pivotal this region would become in shaping my views on leadership, equity, and the future of the workplace – especially for women.

As Managing Partner of Gowling WLG in the Middle East and Head of our UAE corporate team, my role goes beyond legal strategy and client outcomes. It’s about people, culture, unlocking talent, and ensuring that women in our profession have every opportunity to thrive, lead, and shape the legal industry’s future.

The Challenge Still Standing
Let’s be honest: law firms have work to do. A significant challenge remains in encouraging women to believe that a path to partnership exists for them – one that doesn’t force them to choose between professional ambition and personal fulfillment. We can’t afford to lose exceptional talent to outdated notions of success.

This isn’t just a women’s issue. It’s a leadership issue. One area where we need major improvement is supporting men whose partners also have demanding careers. We must give these men the flexibility to be true partners at home. We miss the bigger picture when we only focus on women’s flexibility. Equity must be holistic.

Our Role in Shaping What’s Next
Creating a future where women are not just included but central to progress requires action – not just intention. Within Gowling WLG, we’re driving conversations around inclusive leadership, flexible work models, and career mapping that reflect real-life aspirations. Our leadership team is held accountable for this vision. I see my role as a sponsor, an ally, and, above all, a listener.

The UAE has such powerful momentum, with women stepping into leadership roles across every sector. But we can’t let that progress plateau. Everyone in a position of influence – men and women alike – must use their platforms to keep moving the needle forward.

Advice for the Women Forging Ahead
To every woman forging a path in law, business, or anywhere else: never doubt that your seat at the table matters. And don’t wait for permission to take it. Build networks that lift you, seek out mentors, and challenge outdated assumptions. The future belongs to those brave enough to redefine it.

We’re not just building careers – we’re building legacies. The Women of the Future UAE project celebrates that truth. I’m honored to play a small role in this extraordinary movement.
